Imran Khan Named Prime Accused as FIA Prepares 57-Page Charge Sheet in Foreign Funding Case
Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has prepared a 57-page charge sheet in the foreign funding case, naming former Prime Minister Imran Khan as the prime accused in a significant legal development.
According to sources, the charge sheet includes a total of 11 accused individuals, including prominent names such as Tariq Shafi and Hamid Zaman. Three suspects, including Arif Naqvi and Tariq Rahim Sheikh, have been declared absconders.
The FIA alleges that around 1,800 transactions were made into Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) accounts from various countries under the banner of “Naya Pakistan.” The total amount in question is approximately $2.1 million, which investigators claim constitutes illegal foreign funding.
The charge sheet further states that a company named “Wootton Cricket Limited” allegedly transferred funds to PTI. According to records submitted to the Election Commission, the company was attributed to Arif Naqvi and claimed to be registered in the Cayman Islands. However, investigators assert that the company is fake and not officially registered anywhere.
The development comes after a special court directed the FIA to submit the charge sheet, which is expected to be filed within a day. During a hearing at the banking court in Islamabad, Special Judge Abdul Ghafoor Kakar inquired about the status of the investigation, to which Special Prosecutor Waseeq Malik confirmed that the charge sheet is complete and ready for submission.
The court has adjourned the hearing of the main case until April 21 and extended the interim bail of accused Siraj Ahmed and Faisal Qazi until the same date. Arguments on bail could not be presented due to the absence of one of the accused.
