Punjab Ends Free Public Transport Facility, Fare Collection to Resume from Tomorrow
The Punjab government has officially announced the end of its free public transport facility, with passengers set to pay regular fares from tomorrow.
According to Punjab Mass Transit Authority official Uzair Shah, the decision will apply not only in Lahore but also to mass transit systems operating in Rawalpindi and Multan.
Under the new arrangement, free travel on the Orange Line Train, Metro Bus, Speedo Bus, and Green Bus services has been discontinued, and the regular fare system has been fully restored.
The free transport initiative was launched in April 2026 to provide financial relief to citizens amid rising inflation and increasing fuel prices.
Officials said nearly 800,000 people were benefiting from the scheme on a daily basis. Around 290,000 passengers used the Orange Line Train each day, while more than 100,000 commuters traveled free on the Metro Bus service.
With the temporary relief package now coming to an end, all passengers will once again be required to pay the prescribed fares for public transportation services across the province.
