Trump Says Iran Deal Enters Second Phase, Expects Easier Negotiations Ahead
US President Donald Trump has announced that the agreement with Iran has entered its second phase, expressing optimism that the upcoming round of negotiations will be easier and more productive.
Speaking on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Evian, France, during a meeting with Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Trump said the deal with Iran should prove successful and that conditions are now favorable for further progress.
The US president dismissed reports suggesting that Washington plans to invest in Iran, describing such claims as baseless. He emphasized that the primary objective of the agreement is to ensure that Iran never acquires nuclear weapons.
Trump also praised Qatar’s role in facilitating dialogue and negotiations, saying that working with Doha has been a positive experience and commending the Qatari leadership and people.
Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim welcomed the progress made in US-Iran relations, stating that an agreement between Washington and Tehran could benefit not only Iran but the entire Middle East region. He reaffirmed Qatar’s willingness to assist friendly nations whenever needed.
Commenting on Israel’s recent strike on Beirut shortly before the Iran agreement was finalized, Trump expressed his dissatisfaction with the operation and said he had conveyed his concerns to Israeli officials. However, he argued that the limited nature of the conflict in Lebanon would not necessarily jeopardize the agreement with Iran.
Trump further stated that he had advised Israel to allow Syria to play a role in addressing issues related to Hezbollah, suggesting that Damascus could manage the situation more effectively.
Reiterating his position on Iran’s nuclear program, Trump warned that any attempt by Tehran to obtain nuclear weapons would result in serious consequences, stressing that preventing Iran from becoming a nuclear-armed state remains a central component of the agreement.
