Shahid Afridi Visits United Nations Headquarters in New York

Former Pakistan cricket captain Shahid Afridi visited the United Nations Headquarters in New York at the invitation of Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmed.

During the visit, Afridi received a detailed briefing on the United Nations’ efforts to promote international peace, security, sustainable development, and multilateral cooperation among nations.

Afridi also met Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmed, who praised the former cricketer’s achievements on the cricket field as well as his humanitarian and social welfare initiatives.

The ambassador highlighted the growing importance of sports diplomacy, noting that sports possess a unique ability to unite people across borders, encourage mutual respect, and strengthen international cooperation.

Shahid Afridi expressed his appreciation to the Pakistan Mission to the United Nations for the invitation and commended its efforts to promote dialogue, understanding, and peaceful conflict resolution around the world.

The visit underscored a shared commitment to using sports as a powerful platform for fostering peace, goodwill, and stronger relationships among communities and nations.

A dinner reception was later hosted in Afridi’s honour, attended by senior diplomats and members of Pakistan’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations.

Observers noted that the visit highlighted the positive role prominent athletes can play in advancing international understanding and promoting global harmony through sports.
