Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan Urge Afghan Government to Honor Commitments; 15 MoUs Signed to Strengthen Ties

Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan have jointly urged the Afghan government to fulfill the commitments it has made to the international community and to address Pakistan’s security concerns, as the two countries deepened their bilateral cooperation during high-level talks in Islamabad.

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov led the delegation-level discussions, attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir, key federal ministers, and senior officials.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif underscored that Pakistan attaches great importance to its brotherly relations with the Kyrgyz Republic. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening engagement with Central Asian states under its “Vision Central Asia” policy.

The two leaders emphasized the historic and cultural ties between Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan and highlighted their shared vision for regional peace, stability, and prosperity. They reaffirmed their resolve to expand cooperation in trade, energy, connectivity, people-to-people exchanges, and other sectors.

15 MoUs Signed; Trade Target Set at USD 200 Million

Both sides agreed on the need to boost economic cooperation, signing 15 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) across energy, minerals, trade, education, law and justice, culture, and tourism.

They also agreed to expand bilateral trade to USD 200 million by 2027–28, ensuring effective implementation of the agreements and MoUs signed during the visit.

Progress on CASA-1000 and QTTA Reviewed

Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan reaffirmed their commitment to the timely completion of the CASA-1000 energy project, calling it a major milestone in regional energy cooperation and a crucial link between Central and South Asia.

The leaders also expressed satisfaction over the activation of the road corridor between Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan under the Quadrilateral Traffic in Transit Agreement (QTTA), which is expected to enhance regional and bilateral trade.

Regional Security, Afghanistan Discussed

During the talks, the two leaders exchanged views on important regional and global developments. They expressed deep concern over rising regional security threats and agreed that all disputes must be resolved peacefully, in line with international law, the UN Charter, and relevant Security Council resolutions.

Both countries urged the Afghan government to fulfill its commitments to the international community and to take concrete steps to address Pakistan’s security concerns.
