Former Prime Minister and Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) leader Nawaz Sharif expressed concern over the poor state of infrastructure in Gilgit-Baltistan during an election rally in Gilgit ahead of the June 7 general elections.

Addressing a public gathering, Nawaz Sharif said he was saddened by the condition of roads and basic facilities in the region. Referring to his journey from Gilgit Airport to the city, he remarked that the deteriorating infrastructure was difficult to comprehend and questioned how such a situation had been allowed to develop.

The PML-N leader stated that if public funds had been utilized properly, the region would have witnessed much better development. He highlighted his party’s past performance, claiming that PML-N governments had built extensive road networks and initiated key infrastructure projects across the country.

Without naming any political party, Nawaz Sharif questioned why successive governments had failed to prioritize the development of Gilgit-Baltistan. He emphasized that PML-N seeks votes based on its performance rather than criticism of opponents.

He also pointed to projects undertaken during his tenure, including hospitals, power plants, and hydropower initiatives. Nawaz Sharif further pledged to discuss the expansion of Gilgit Airport with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to facilitate larger commercial aircraft operations.

The former premier assured the people of Gilgit-Baltistan that development of the region would remain a priority and vowed to continue efforts aimed at improving infrastructure, connectivity, and public services.
