Supreme Judicial Council Rejects All Complaints Against Chief Justice Yahya Afridi
The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) has unanimously dismissed all five complaints filed against Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi. According to an official statement issued after the meeting, the council reviewed each complaint in detail before declaring them non-actionable.
The first complaint had been filed in 2016 by Peshawar High Court lawyer Sibghatullah Shah when Yahya Afridi was serving as a judge of the Peshawar High Court. The council rejected the complaint during its May 14 session.
The second complaint was submitted by Karachi resident Amjad Hussain Durrani, who alleged that a Supreme Court case had been dismissed without a hearing, claiming it amounted to misconduct. However, the council unanimously dismissed the complaint.
The third complaint was filed by Karachi resident Kamran Khan, who claimed that his petition had been rejected without giving him an opportunity to be heard. The council also dismissed this complaint unanimously.
The fourth complaint was lodged by Muhammad Masood from Vehari, alleging that a civil case decision issued in March 2023 was against the law and constituted misconduct. The complaint was rejected after review.
The fifth and final complaint was filed by Lahore High Court lawyer Amjad Mahmood, who alleged that a lawyer had been barred from entering the Supreme Court in 2024. The council dismissed this complaint as well.
According to the official statement, after reviewing all five complaints, the Supreme Judicial Council unanimously decided to dispose of them as non-actionable matters.
