Lahore police authorities have launched a strict crackdown against police personnel accused of demanding money from citizens in the name of “Eidi.”

DIG Operations Faisal Kamran stated that a zero-tolerance policy has been adopted against officials bringing a bad name to the police department, adding that no leniency would be shown in such cases.

According to the Operations Wing spokesperson, complaints were received from residents in the Shahdara and Islampura areas regarding police officials allegedly asking citizens for money during Eid.

Taking immediate notice of the complaints, the DIG Operations ordered an inquiry through the SDPO Islampura. After the allegations were proven during the investigation, cases were registered against the involved officials at Shahdara and Islampura police stations.

The officers have been booked under Section 155-C and the Beggary Act.

DIG Faisal Kamran said there is no place in the police force for officials who damage the department’s reputation by seeking money from the public. He further emphasized that strict departmental and legal action would continue against personnel involved in misuse of authority and illegal activities.

He also directed field officers to ensure that subordinate staff refrain from unlawful conduct and maintain a lawful and respectful attitude toward citizens.
