India’s Water Release Triggers Massive Flood in Chenab, Devastating Multan Division

Flood fears have turned into reality as India’s water release into the Chenab River and heavy rains in upstream areas have triggered a disastrous flood across Punjab. According to PDMA Punjab, water flow at Head Marala has surged to 549,000 cusecs, recording a 400,000 cusecs rise in just 8 hours.
The flood wave has now entered Multan Division, submerging dozens of villages. Over 138 settlements in Band Bosan and adjoining areas have gone underwater, with thousands of acres of maize, fodder, and orchards completely destroyed. In a desperate move, local authorities deliberately breached protective embankments to divert water and protect Multan city.
Rescue 1122 and Pakistan Army teams are actively engaged in relief efforts, evacuating residents to safer places and setting up tent villages. Officials warn the situation may worsen if water inflows continue to rise.
