National Computer Emergency Response Team (nCERT) has issued a statement debunking rumors about a potential nationwide closure of ATMs and online banking services in Pakistan. The advisory, released today, clarified that there are no reports of disruptions or cyber threats targeting the country’s banking infrastructure.

The rumors, which circulated widely on social media, claimed that ATMs would be closed for several days due to a ransomware cyber-attack and warned users about a supposed virus called the “Dance of the Hillary” that could format mobile devices. The message also advised against opening emails with attachments named “tasksche.exe.”

The nCERT has assured the public that all banking services, including ATMs and online banking applications, are functioning normally and that there is no reason to panic. The team has urged users to refrain from spreading misleading information, which has caused undue concern among the public.

To ensure security, the nCERT has advised users to log out of banking apps after each use, monitor their bank statements for any unusual transactions, and keep their ATM card PINs, OTPs, and passwords confidential. The team emphasized that maintaining these practices will help safeguard against any potential security threats.
