Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has issued its forecast regarding the expected sighting of the Zil Hajj 1447 Hijri moon in Pakistan.

According to SUPARCO, the new moon of Zil Hajj is expected to be born on May 17, 2026, at 1:01 AM Pakistan Standard Time.

The space agency stated that by sunset on May 17, the moon’s age would be approximately 18 hours and 30 minutes, creating favorable conditions for visibility.

SUPARCO further explained that in Pakistan’s coastal regions, the time difference between sunset and moonset is expected to be around 60 minutes, increasing the chances of moon sighting if weather conditions remain clear.

Based on astronomical calculations, SUPARCO said there is a strong possibility that the moon of Zil Hajj will be sighted on the evening of May 17, making May 18, 2026, the likely first day of Zil Hajj.

The agency also predicted that Eid-ul-Adha is expected to fall on May 27, 2026. However, SUPARCO clarified that the final announcement regarding moon sighting and the start of the Islamic month will be made by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee after receiving verified testimonies from across the country.
