University of Peshawar Faces Severe Financial Crisis, Joint Action Committee Demands Federal Control
The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the University of Peshawar has stated that the institution is facing a severe financial crisis and that the provincial government has completely failed to manage the university both financially and administratively.
According to sources, a meeting of the Joint Action Committee — representing teachers and administrative officers of the University of Peshawar — was held to review the deteriorating financial situation of the institution. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Zakarullah Jan.
In a statement issued after the meeting, participants expressed deep frustration, anxiety, and disappointment among university employees due to ongoing financial instability. The committee strongly protested the continuous failure of the university administration and the provincial government to ensure the timely payment of salaries and pensions.
The statement further highlighted serious concern over the worsening financial crisis of the university, which has severely affected academic and administrative operations.
During the meeting, a unanimous resolution was passed declaring that the provincial government has proven itself completely incapable of running the affairs of the University of Peshawar. The Joint Action Committee demanded that the university be handed over to the federal government in the best interest of the institution and the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The committee also warned the university administration that if the legitimate demands of employees — particularly the immediate release of salaries and pensions — are not fulfilled without delay, the protest movement will be intensified in the coming days.
