PM Directs Early Planning to Mitigate Climate-Induced Monsoon Losses

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has instructed federal ministries and NDMA to begin early preparations for the next monsoon season to prevent human and economic losses caused by climate change. Chairing a high-level meeting on the government’s climate resilience strategy, the PM emphasized coordinated planning among the Ministry of Climate Change, the Ministry of Planning, NDMA, and provincial governments.

He also ordered preparations for convening a meeting of the National Water Council to enhance national-level water management. Approving the short-term plan presented during the briefing, the PM directed authorities to initiate immediate implementation.

The prime minister noted that despite Pakistan’s negligible contribution to global climate change, the country faces severe impacts and must allocate significant portions of its GDP every few years to deal with the damages. Federal ministers and senior officials attended the meeting, where global monsoon forecasts and detailed short-, medium-, and long-term climate plans were presented.
