Pakistan and Malaysia Agree to Boost Bilateral Trade and Economic Cooperation

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in Putrajaya, where both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and expanding trade relations between Pakistan and Malaysia.
The two leaders expressed satisfaction over the progress achieved since Anwar Ibrahim’s visit to Pakistan in October 2024 and agreed to further enhance cooperation in information technology, halal industry, automotive sector, renewable and green energy, agriculture, higher education, and tourism.
Both sides also agreed to increase Pakistan’s halal meat export quota to Malaysia to USD 200 million, while Pakistan’s rice exports have already surpassed the agreed quota.
Several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed in the fields of tourism, higher education, anti-corruption cooperation, training of diplomats, halal certification, and SME development.
The two leaders also discussed key regional and international issues, including the situations in the Middle East and Kashmir. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim appreciated Pakistan’s constructive role in promoting peace, while reaffirming Malaysia’s support for Pakistan’s stance on Kashmir.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated Anwar Ibrahim on assuming the ASEAN Chairmanship, and thanked Malaysia for supporting Pakistan’s aspiration to become a full dialogue partner of ASEAN.
The meeting concluded with a luncheon hosted in honor of the Pakistani delegation, followed by the launch of PM Anwar Ibrahim’s book “Script,” which reflects his thoughts on leadership and governance.
