Israeli authorities have heightened military preparations as the international “Samoud Flotilla,” a convoy of nearly 50 ships carrying aid, approaches Gaza’s shores.

According to Israeli media, commandos have completed sea operation drills, while hospitals nationwide have been placed on emergency footing. The flotilla includes more than 500 activists from 40 countries, determined to break the 18-year blockade on Gaza and deliver food and medical supplies.

The looming confrontation raises fears of another violent escalation at sea, recalling previous deadly flotilla clashes.
