Rahul & Priyanka Gandhi Among Opposition Leaders Detained in Delhi EC Protest

In a dramatic turn of events, Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, along with several senior opposition MPs, were detained by Delhi Police during a protest march to the Election Commission’s office on Monday morning.
The protest, organised by the INDIA bloc, accused the Election Commission of siding with the ruling BJP in the lead-up to elections. According to police, only 30 MPs were allowed to approach the EC office, but over 200 arrived, prompting intervention.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Devesh Kumar Mahla said the detentions were made to prevent “any breakdown of law and order” after some MPs tried to jump over barricades.
Rahul Gandhi, speaking during detention, said, “This fight is not political—it is to save the Constitution. The fight is for one person, one vote. We want a clean and accurate voter list.” Priyanka Gandhi accused the government of fearing dissent, calling it “cowardly.”
Visuals from the scene showed leaders like Akhilesh Yadav climbing barricades before being detained, while crowds waved placards and chanted slogans. Opposition leaders have vowed to continue their campaign for electoral transparency.
