Field Marshal Promotion Was Civilian Decision After Nawaz’s Consultation, PM Shehbaz

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif revealed that the decision to elevate General Asim Munir to the rank of Field Marshal was made by the civilian government after thorough consultation with former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
“This was not a military decision,” Shehbaz emphasized during a briefing with senior journalists in Islamabad. “It was a collective decision of the entire government.”
He also disclosed that the DGMOs of Pakistan and India have reached an agreement to return to peacetime posture after a ceasefire, reportedly requested by India. Talks between national security advisers of both nations are expected soon, where Pakistan plans to raise issues related to Kashmir, water, trade, and terrorism.
Accusing Indian intelligence of supporting the banned BLA, the premier claimed there is concrete evidence of foreign involvement, including Israeli military support to India during recent clashes. He assured that this evidence would be presented to the international community.
He praised the unwavering support of allies like China and Turkey and appreciated the role of the U.S. in facilitating peace talks.
Later in the day, PM Shehbaz, along with Field Marshal Gen Asim Munir and senior ministers, visited Quetta in response to the tragic school bus attack in Khuzdar. Due to this national tragedy, the President House ceremony to honour the newly appointed field marshal was postponed at Gen Munir’s own request.
