Senate Declares May 25 as Pakistan-Africa Friendship Day to Strengthen Ties

The Senate of Pakistan, under the chairmanship of Yousaf Raza Gillani, has unanimously passed a landmark resolution declaring May 25 as Pakistan-Africa Friendship Day. This symbolic move is aimed at deepening diplomatic and economic ties between Pakistan and the nations of Africa.
The resolution recognized Africa’s longstanding efforts in promoting peace and regional cooperation and underscored the untapped potential for bilateral trade, investment, and development partnerships between Pakistan and African countries.
During the Senate session, several lawmakers praised the historical and cultural ties between the two regions and called for enhanced cooperation in areas such as education, healthcare, technology, and agriculture. The initiative was hailed as a progressive step in diversifying Pakistan’s foreign relations and looking beyond traditional geopolitical alignments.
Chairman Gillani emphasized that Pakistan views Africa not just as a diplomatic ally but also as a continent of opportunities and mutual growth. He said observing this day annually would serve as a reminder of Pakistan’s commitment to global south cooperation.
This move is expected to pave the way for increased cultural exchanges, diplomatic missions, and trade delegations, while also amplifying Pakistan’s voice in Africa and on global platforms.
