US Urges Restraint from India After Pahalgam Attack, Calls for Regional Stability

Following the April 22 attack in Pahalgam, Indian-administered Kashmir, that claimed 26 lives, mostly tourists, US Vice President J.D. Vance urged India to avoid any retaliatory steps that could destabilize the region.

In an interview with Fox News, Vance said Washington expects New Delhi to act responsibly and not take steps that might trigger large-scale conflict in South Asia. “Pakistan is a responsible nuclear power,” Vance added, expressing hope for bilateral cooperation between India and Pakistan.

US President Donald Trump and other American officials condemned the attack, calling it “unacceptable.” The State Department confirmed ongoing diplomatic engagements with both countries to defuse tensions.

Meanwhile, Pakistan has denied India’s allegations and demanded an independent investigation, while accusing India of fabricating evidence — a view echoed by a BBC report exposing inconsistencies in India’s version of the incident, hinting at a false flag operation.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also spoke with Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. In the call, Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s firm commitment to regional peace, while emphasizing Pakistan’s significant role in counter-terrorism efforts.
