PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police has finalized its security plan for Muharram-ul-Haram and recommended a partial suspension of mobile phone and internet services in sensitive areas on the 9th and 10th of Muharram.
According to officials, a formal letter has been sent to the provincial Home Department seeking approval for the temporary restrictions as part of enhanced security measures.
The security assessment identifies eight districts as highly sensitive, including Peshawar, Kohat, Hangu, Dera Ismail Khan, Tank, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, and Kurram.
More than 43,000 police personnel will be deployed across 14 districts to ensure the safety of Muharram processions and gatherings. Additional Frontier Constabulary units will support local police, while assistance from the Pakistan Army will also be available if required.
Authorities have also planned aerial surveillance of procession routes through helicopters and drones. Modern anti-drone systems will be activated in sensitive districts to prevent any unauthorized aerial activity.
Police officials stated that Regional Police Officers (RPOs) and District Police Officers (DPOs) have been directed to coordinate closely with religious scholars and mourning committees to ensure strict implementation of the code of conduct during Muharram.
