A new report by global energy think tank Ember reveals that China’s solar exports reached a record high in March 2026, doubling compared to the previous month.

According to the report, China exported 68 gigawatts of solar technology—equivalent to the total installed solar capacity of Spain and 50% higher than the previous record set in August 2025.

The report highlights that 50 countries set new records for importing Chinese solar products, with significant growth in emerging economies across Asia and Africa. Major increases were also recorded in India, Nigeria, Kenya, Japan, Australia, the European Union, and ASEAN countries.

The analysis, based on Chinese customs data, suggests that global geopolitical tensions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran are accelerating the shift toward renewable energy.

Senior analyst Euan Graham stated that rising fossil fuel prices are further boosting the solar industry, which has already become a key driver of the global economy.

The findings come alongside the “Global Electricity Review 2026,” which shows that record solar generation in 2025 significantly reduced gas-fired power—equivalent to total liquefied natural gas exports passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
