No Immediate Restoration of X in Pakistan as Talks with PTA Fail

The immediate restoration of social media platform X (formerly Twitter) in Pakistan remains unlikely as discussions between the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and the platform’s foreign management failed to reach an agreement.
Sources within PTA confirmed that the regulatory body will not restore the service without explicit orders from the government or the judiciary. Officials stated that X has repeatedly refused to register in Pakistan or adhere to local laws, making a resolution difficult.
PTA revealed that the platform was blocked on February 17, 2024, following directives from the Ministry of Interior, citing concerns over illegal content. Despite multiple requests from authorities to remove or block such content, X neither complied with the directives nor filed an appeal for reinstatement.
Moreover, PTA officials clarified that the Ministry of Interior has not provided any new instructions regarding X’s restoration, further deepening uncertainty over its accessibility in Pakistan. Until a formal resolution is reached, the platform is likely to remain inaccessible to Pakistani users.
