Google’s Gemini Intelligence May Skip Some Premium Android Phones

Google is preparing to launch its new AI-powered Gemini Intelligence platform, but not all premium Android phones may be able to support it.

The feature was recently showcased during the Android Show and is expected to arrive on upcoming flagship devices later this year. However, Google has introduced strict hardware and software requirements that immediately exclude several current-generation smartphones.

According to reports, devices must include a flagship-level processor, at least 12GB of RAM, support for AI Core, and Gemini Nano v3 or newer to qualify for Gemini Intelligence. Phones must also guarantee at least five Android OS upgrades and six years of security updates.

This has raised concerns because even some of Google’s own Pixel devices and Samsung foldables may not currently meet the requirements. Reports suggest that the Pixel 9 series and Galaxy Z Fold 7 are still running Gemini Nano v2, making them ineligible for now.

Google’s upcoming 2026 flagship phones, including the Pixel 10 lineup and Oppo Find X9 series, are expected to be designed specifically for these AI capabilities.

One of the most debated requirements is the need for 12GB RAM. Leaks indicate that the base Pixel 11 model may only include 8GB RAM, creating confusion about Google’s long-term AI strategy.

Despite the uncertainty, Google says Gemini Intelligence will first roll out to selected Pixel and Samsung Galaxy devices later this year. The company has not yet confirmed whether older devices could gain compatibility through future updates.
