Asia Cup 2025 Trophy Row Sparks No-Confidence Move Against ACC Chief Mohsin Naqvi

The 2025 Asia Cup has descended into chaos after a dispute over the trophy presentation triggered political tremors within the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).
India, who won the Asia Cup final against Pakistan, refused to accept the trophy from ACC President and PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi. The silverware remains locked at the ACC headquarters in Dubai after the Indian team walked away without attending the presentation ceremony.
Reports suggest the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is building support for a no-confidence motion against Naqvi. Sri Lanka has reportedly backed India’s stance, while Bangladesh has aligned with Pakistan. Afghanistan’s undecided position makes its vote crucial in determining Naqvi’s future as ACC chief.
Rejecting Indian media reports that he had apologized to the BCCI, Naqvi said: “Indian media thrives on lies, not facts. I have never apologized to the BCCI nor will I ever do so. The trophy is available at ACC headquarters if they wish to collect it.”
The fiasco highlights worsening relations between India and Pakistan, with tensions already visible earlier in the tournament when players avoided handshakes and captains skipped the pre-final photo call.
The ACC now faces its biggest leadership crisis in years, with the trophy handover dispute threatening to overshadow Asian cricket unity.
