Shaheen Afridi Eyes Babar, Smith, Warner as Top Targets in Upcoming Big Bash League

Pakistan’s left-arm pace spearhead, Shaheen Shah Afridi, has stirred excitement ahead of the 15th season of the Big Bash League (BBL) by naming Babar Azam, Steve Smith, and David Warner as his most anticipated dismissals.
In a candid podcast interview, Afridi—who will represent Brisbane Heat this season—refused to pick just one wicket as the most prized. “For me, it’s all three,” he said with a grin. “They’re all important players, and getting any of them out would mean a lot.”
Afridi welcomed the increasing presence of Pakistani players in the BBL, highlighting the added thrill of competing against his national teammates like Babar, Rizwan, and Shadab Khan. “We just played together in the PSL, and now we’ll be facing off. That’s the beauty of franchise cricket.”
He also noted how the Pakistani diaspora in Australia could turn the BBL into a thrilling spectacle. “I hope the fans cheer for me when I’m at the top of my run-up. Whether it’s Pakistani or Aussie fans shouting ‘Afridi!’, that will boost me.”
Afridi, known for his electrifying early spells, said he’s aiming to strike in the first over and deliver memorable celebrations. “That’s when it feels most special — early wickets, big names, and loud cheers.”
He also praised Babar Azam, calling him “one of the most consistent batters in the world,” despite his intention to dismiss him during the tournament.
