SAAF Cross Country Championships 2024 Postponed Amid Smog Crisis
The South Asian Athletics Federation (SAAF) Cross Country Athletics Championships 2024, originally planned for November 24 in Islamabad, has been postponed due to worsening smog conditions in Punjab. The decision was made after consultations with government officials and SAAF leadership, prioritizing the health and safety of athletes.
Severe smog, particularly in Lahore and surrounding areas, has led to road closures and restricted air travel, hampering logistical preparations for the event. Two participating teams scheduled to travel by road from Lahore to Islamabad faced significant travel risks.
Given the health hazards and logistical challenges, the championships will be rescheduled for a safer period in the coming months. New dates will be announced soon, ensuring the competition occurs in an improved environment.
