The much-anticipated Pakistani film The Legend of Maula Jatt, starring Fawad Khan, is facing significant political backlash ahead of its release in India on October 2. The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), a regional political party, has publicly announced its intent to prevent the film’s screening across the country.

MNS leader Ameya Khopkar stated, “We will not allow the release of Pakistani films, nor will we permit their artists to work in Indian films.” This announcement follows a history of opposition from the party regarding Pakistani actors in Indian cinema, with Khopkar previously expressing outrage on social media about the film’s release plans.

The MNS has a track record of opposing films featuring Pakistani actors, previously voicing their disapproval of Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, which also starred Fawad Khan. In a pointed remark, Khopkar labeled Indian fans of Fawad as “traitors,” suggesting they should relocate to Pakistan if they wished to support the film.

The increasing tension surrounding The Legend of Maula Jatt reflects broader cultural and political challenges faced by Pakistani cinema in India. As the release date approaches, the potential for heightened conflict remains, with MNS pledging to uphold its ban on Pakistani films.
