76th Emmy Awards: “Shogun” Breaks Record with 18 Wins

The 76th Emmy Awards celebrated television’s biggest achievements on Sunday night in Los Angeles, with FX’s “Shogun” making history by winning 18 awards—the most ever won by a series in a single season. The Japanese epic claimed top honors for Outstanding Drama Series, with Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai taking home the awards for Lead Actor and Lead Actress in a Drama Series, respectively.

The night also saw a surprise in the comedy category as HBO’s “Hacks” took the prize for Outstanding Comedy Series, beating out fan-favorite “The Bear.” Jean Smart’s performance in “Hacks” earned her the Lead Actress in a Comedy award, while Jeremy Allen White of “The Bear” secured the Lead Actor prize.

In the limited series category, Netflix’s word-of-mouth sensation “Baby Reindeer” won for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series. Richard Gadd’s portrayal in “Baby Reindeer” earned him the award for Lead Actor in a Limited Series, while Jodie Foster won Lead Actress for her role in “True Detective: Night Country.”

Supporting role winners included Billy Crudup (“The Morning Show”) and Elizabeth Debicki (“The Crown”) in drama, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Liza Colon-Zayas from “The Bear” for comedy. “Baby Reindeer” also saw Jessica Gunning win for Supporting Actress in a Limited Series, while Lamorne Morris took Supporting Actor for “Fargo.”
