Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif has drawn a comparison between current batting star Babar Azam and cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, focusing on their batting techniques amid Babar’s recent performance struggles. Latif, who has closely observed both players’ careers, suggested that technical proficiency is crucial for overcoming a lean patch.

Latif spoke about Babar’s ongoing difficulties with his form, asserting that players with technically sound techniques, such as Tendulkar, often recover from slumps more quickly. He noted that Tendulkar, despite facing periods of poor form, was able to rebound effectively due to his solid technique.

“In the past, I have seen many players experience form slumps, including Sachin Tendulkar,” Latif said. “But because Sachin had a sound and effective batting technique, he was able to overcome these periods of poor performance relatively quickly.”

In contrast, Latif highlighted that players like Virender Sehwag, who had a more unorthodox technique, often took longer to regain their form. “Sehwag, for example, needed more time to get back into form due to his less conventional technique,” Latif explained.

Latif pointed out specific issues in Babar Azam’s current technique that have contributed to his prolonged slump. “Babar has been charging the ball too hard, which has made his shot selection difficult,” Latif observed. “He struggles with balls moving away from him, and his decision-making on whether to hit or leave the ball has been problematic.”
