Health Experts Warn About Proper Storage of Cut Watermelon in Summer
Cold watermelon is considered one of the most popular summer foods, but recent incidents related to its consumption have raised concerns about food safety and hygiene.
Health experts say that watermelon itself is completely safe and healthy to eat; however, once cut, it must be stored properly to prevent bacterial growth.
According to nutrition specialists, watermelon contains high amounts of water and natural sugars, making it highly vulnerable to bacteria in hot weather conditions. If cut watermelon is left outside for too long, it may become harmful to human health.
Experts warned that contaminated watermelon can pose greater risks to children, elderly individuals, and people with weakened immune systems.
They advised consumers to thoroughly wash the fruit before cutting it and ensure that knives and hands are properly cleaned beforehand. Cut watermelon pieces should be stored immediately in airtight containers inside a refrigerator.
Health professionals also recommended avoiding pre-cut watermelon that has been left exposed in open environments, as it can easily become contaminated.
According to experts, following proper hygiene and storage practices can make watermelon a safe, refreshing, and highly nutritious summer fruit.
