Popular Indian actor Ranbir Kapoor has expressed his dislike for the term "Bollywood", commonly used to describe the Hindi film industry.

In an interview with British media, Kapoor was asked why he objected to the term. He explained that the word was derived from "Hollywood". According to him, the name emerged when the city was known as Bombay, while terms such as "Tollywood" were also adopted for other regional film industries.

Kapoor said he would rather be identified as a representative of Indian cinema than simply as a Bollywood actor.

He added that India is a country of diverse cultures, languages and states, but artistic expression brings people together. He said stories rooted in one's own culture and traditions can connect with audiences across the world.
