Pakistan Must Safeguard Economic Independence While Implementing Reforms, US Envoy

US Chargé d’Affaires Nathalie A. Baker stated that Pakistan is a sovereign nation and should avoid falling into any country’s debt trap. She emphasized that Pakistan must fully implement its privatization program to strengthen its economy.

Baker added that the success of Pakistan’s economic strategy depends on full adherence to IMF reform programs, and the World Bank is cooperating effectively with Pakistan.

Speaking informally at the Presidential Palace, she said that US economic cooperation with Pakistan is progressing well, and the United States highly values Pakistan’s sovereignty.

Regarding Pakistan’s relations with China, Baker noted that Pakistan can engage with any country but must safeguard its economic independence carefully.

She also mentioned the upcoming visit of US President Donald Trump to Pakistan, describing him as a proponent of peace.
