Over 10 million women in Pakistan at risk of breast cancer, Dr. Umar
Pakistan holds the grim distinction of having the highest breast cancer rate in Asia, according to Dr. Umar Aftab, Chief Executive Officer of Pink Ribbon. In an interview, Dr. Aftab revealed that over ten million women across the country are at risk, stressing the importance of early detection for saving lives.
For the past 22 years, Pink Ribbon has been dedicated to raising awareness about breast cancer. Dr. Aftab emphasized the importance of timely mammography screenings and encouraged women to consult doctors without hesitation. He also reassured that government hospitals are now equipped to offer breast cancer treatments.
Pink Ribbon has taken a significant step by establishing Pakistan’s first dedicated breast cancer hospital in Lahore. This facility currently provides free diagnostic services, and within two months, it will begin offering surgical and chemotherapy treatments, providing hope for thousands of patients.
