Diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions between Iran and the United States have continued following a new round of talks in Doha, mediated by Qatar. According to the report provided, a draft containing proposals for a possible agreement has been delivered to the parties.
A Reuters report said the Iranian negotiating delegation departed Doha after the talks. Its departure was not described as a sign that negotiations had stalled or failed. However, details of the new draft have not been made public.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said the discussions were based on a seven-point proposal previously put forward by Tehran. The plan includes reopening the Strait of Hormuz and ending the US naval blockade and sanctions imposed on Iran.
Baghaei said Iran wanted the proposal implemented more quickly and described Tehran's demands as clear. He maintained that a final agreement and the safe reopening of the Strait of Hormuz would remain difficult unless the US blockade ended and Iran's demands were addressed.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had earlier suggested that the Strait of Hormuz could be reopened within two days under a new arrangement. However, the reported proposal has not been confirmed as an agreed or implemented measure.
The diplomatic effort comes amid concerns that military tensions could rise after the US midterm elections. The contents of the latest draft and the possibility of a final agreement remain unclear.
