A special court on Thursday indicted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, in the Toshakhana-II case. The indictment was carried out in Adiala Jail under the supervision of Judge Shah Rukh Arjumand, who adjourned the case until December 18.

The case revolves around allegations that the couple illegally retained a Bulgari jewelry set valued at Rs75.6 million, gifted during an official visit to Saudi Arabia in May 2021. The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) claimed the undervaluation of the jewelry caused a loss of Rs32.85 million to the national treasury.

Initially investigated by NAB, the case was transferred to the FIA after amendments to the NAB law. The FIA’s investigation revealed that the necklace and earrings were sold to a Saudi franchise for substantial amounts, but the required payments to the Toshakhana were not made.

The charges against the couple include violations of various sections of the NAB Ordinance 1999, with potential implications for their legal and political future.
