In a significant development, retired Lt Gen Faiz Hameed, former director general of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), is undergoing a Field General Court Martial (FGCM) under the Pakistan Army Act.

The proceedings, which began on August 12, 2024, are based on allegations of engaging in political activities, violating the Official Secrets Act, misuse of authority, and causing undue harm to individuals.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the investigation also encompasses his alleged involvement in instigating unrest on May 9, 2023, which led to widespread instability. These actions are suspected to have been carried out in collusion with political entities for personal or political gains.

Furthermore, the ISPR stated that the Supreme Court had directed an inquiry into the complaints raised in the Top City Case, which further implicates the retired general. The inquiry established sufficient grounds for initiating court martial proceedings.

This marks a rare occurrence in Pakistan’s history where a senior military officer faces legal action under military laws for alleged misconduct.
