The headquarters of two major aviation institutions, the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) and the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA), are set to be shifted from Karachi to Islamabad.
According to sources, temporary headquarters for both organisations will be constructed at Islamabad International Airport. A seven-member joint committee comprising officials from the Pakistan Airports Authority and the Civil Aviation Authority has been formed for the purpose.
Airports Authority Deputy Director General Sadiq Rehman has been appointed as head of the joint committee. The committee will determine a suitable location at Islamabad Airport for the construction of the temporary headquarters.
Sources said the Civil Aviation Authority is expected to be shifted to Islamabad by November, while the Pakistan Airports Authority is planned to move by December.
The two organisations currently have their main headquarters in Karachi. However, their regional offices in Karachi and other parts of the country will continue to operate following the relocation.
