Pakistan’s weekly inflation continued to rise, with the overall inflation rate increasing by 0.49% during the latest week, while annual inflation reached 9.66%, according to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.

The latest weekly inflation report showed significant increases in the prices of several essential commodities. Onion prices increased by 14.17%, petrol by 3.77%, chicken by 3.35%, garlic by 2%, and gram pulse by 0.63%.

However, prices of some commodities declined during the week. Eggs became 5.78% cheaper, diesel prices fell by 5.15%, while tomato prices declined by 4.99%.

Which items became most expensive over the year?

On an annual basis, onions recorded the sharpest increase, with prices rising by 132.52%. Tomato prices increased by 93.21%, wheat flour by 62.25%, LPG by 51.69%, and diesel by 33.08%.

Meanwhile, several commodities became cheaper compared with the same period last year. Potato prices declined by 30.01%, sugar by 19.10%, chicken by 17.68%, and eggs by 17.41%.

The latest figures indicate that although the weekly increase in inflation was relatively modest, significant annual increases in the prices of several essential commodities continue to put pressure on household budgets.
