Punjab Minister for Industries, Commerce and Investment Chaudhry Shafay Hussain has said that trade relations between Pakistan and Canada are expanding, with encouraging discussions and agreements reached in several areas of cooperation.
Speaking during the Canada Gateway Expo in Toronto, Shafay Hussain said talks with Canadian officials had been successful and that Canadian delegations would soon visit Punjab.
He said discussions were held on increasing exports of Pakistani textiles, soybeans, leather and other products to Canada. Pakistan is also looking to export salt to the Canadian market.
The provincial minister said Pakistan already exports around 90% of its surgical instruments to the United States and Canada.
Shafay Hussain also highlighted Punjab’s investment opportunities, saying the provincial government is providing facilities and protection to foreign investors. He added that tax-free zones have been established in Punjab for local and international industries.
He further appreciated the Pakistani community in Canada and said stronger engagement with the diaspora could help promote trade and investment between the two countries.
