Pakistan's team selection for the second Test against the West Indies has sparked widespread debate after experienced fast bowler Mohammad Abbas was dropped despite being the team's standout performer in the opening match.
Abbas claimed eight wickets in the first Test at Tarouba, including a brilliant five-wicket haul in one innings. However, Pakistan lost the match by 90 runs after the batting lineup failed to deliver.
For the series-deciding second Test, the team management replaced Abbas with young fast bowler Obaid Shah, handing him his Test debut.
Captain Babar Azam defended the decision, saying the team made four changes based on pitch conditions and that Abbas was rested as part of those tactical adjustments.
The decision has nevertheless drawn criticism from fans and cricket analysts. According to Pakistan's Test records, this is the first time since 1980 that a Pakistani bowler has been dropped immediately after taking a five-wicket haul in a Test innings.
Adding to the debate, debutant Obaid Shah struggled in his first outing, conceding 56 runs in just nine overs, prompting further questions over Pakistan's team selection strategy.
