Karachi’s young wicketkeeper Muhammad Ghazi Ghori reached a major milestone in his cricket career after receiving his Test cap during the first day of Pakistan’s third and final Test against England at Edgbaston in Birmingham.
Ghori became Pakistan’s 266th Test cricketer. He had previously represented Pakistan in four One-Day Internationals and has now added Test cricket to his international career.
Born in Karachi on March 16, 2003, Ghazi Ghori began his cricket journey in 2020 with Metropolitan Club in Karachi’s Zone 6. The following year, he was selected for the Pakistan Cricket Club by club official Azam Khan.
The young wicketkeeper received early guidance from former Pakistan Test captain Sarfaraz Ahmed and coach Asim Rizvi. In 2023, Ghori made his first-class debut for Karachi Region Whites against Faisalabad Region at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium under Sarfaraz Ahmed’s captaincy.
Sarfaraz played a significant role in developing Ghori as a wicketkeeper. On several occasions, he handed the youngster the wicketkeeping gloves while taking up fielding duties himself, giving Ghori valuable experience behind the stumps.
Ghori’s Test debut is also a significant achievement for Pakistan Cricket Club, which has produced several prominent players, including Sarfaraz Ahmed, Shan Masood, Asad Shafiq, Saim Ayub, Saud Shakeel and Fakhar Zaman, among others.
