Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities to complete measures aimed at improving the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) within three months.
A meeting on the improvement plan for PIMS reviewed the hospital’s investigation report and performance audit. The prime minister directed that assistance from the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute (PKLI) be sought for fire-safety arrangements at PIMS and that recommendations contained in the World Health Organization (WHO) report be implemented.
The prime minister also directed that measures for the free provision of medicines at hospitals be included in the improvement plan and that personnel with a good professional reputation be appointed at PIMS.
He further ordered an audit of the Polyclinic Hospital to identify and address irregularities.
Shehbaz Sharif also directed authorities to ensure fire-safety audits of public and private hospitals, offices and other buildings.
