Influenza cases have increased by 20 per cent at public and private hospitals in Karachi, while Covid-19 cases continue to be reported in the city.
Respiratory disease specialist Dr Javed Khan said an increase in influenza cases has been observed over the past few days. He said influenza vaccines are usually administered at private hospitals, but the vaccine has not yet become available this year, leaving people who receive the vaccine annually waiting.
Dr Khan said Covid-19 cases are also continuing to emerge in Karachi, with around three to four cases being reported every week.
According to the respiratory specialist, most of the current Covid-19 cases are mild. Some patients are arriving at hospitals with mild pneumonia, while most Covid-19 patients recover within two to three days.
Dr Khan urged citizens to take precautionary measures against both influenza and Covid-19. He advised people experiencing fever, cough or cold symptoms to maintain distance from others and wear a mask.
He also recommended washing hands frequently with soap, avoiding unnecessary touching of the eyes, nose and mouth, and urged people who are unwell to avoid crowded places and unnecessary gatherings.
