Islamabad: The number of children living with HIV in Pakistan has reached approximately 7,500, according to the latest figures released by the Ministry of National Health Services.

Official data shows that more than 62,000 HIV patients are currently receiving treatment across the country, with children accounting for nearly 12 percent of all registered cases.

The statistics identify Sindh as the province with the highest number of HIV-positive children, where around 4,200 children have been registered.

To address the nutritional needs of affected children, the federal government has sought assistance from UNICEF, the World Food Programme (WFP), the World Health Organization (WHO), and Nutrition International.

Health authorities said children suffering from severe malnutrition will receive specialized nutritional supplements, regular medical monitoring, and dietary support. Parents and caregivers will also be provided with guidance on meeting the nutritional requirements of children living with HIV.

Medical experts noted that children with HIV require 10 to 20 percent more energy and protein than healthy children. They added that improving nutrition can significantly enhance treatment outcomes and overall health.
