Renowned Pakistani stage actor and comedian Asif Iqbal Butt, popularly known as “Phena Ji,” has passed away at the age of 60.
According to Express News, Asif Butt suffered a heart attack. His family rushed him to hospital, but he could not survive.
Originally from Gujranwala, Asif Iqbal Butt was introduced to the drama and stage industry by well-known artist Sohail Ahmed Aziz. He became known for his quick wit, spontaneous acting and distinctive style of comedy.
Throughout his career, he worked alongside several prominent stage performers, including Amanat Chan, Nasir Chinyoti and Naseem Vicky. He was also reported to have been a close friend of late stage comedians Mastana and Babu Baral.
According to the report, Butt completed his graduation while remaining involved in the theatrical environment and eventually established a distinct identity in the world of stage comedy. His death marks the loss of another familiar face from Punjab’s stage entertainment scene.
