An orange cat that had become a familiar sight at Mumbai’s Gundavali Metro Station has now received an unusual honorary title from the metro authorities.

The cat had been frequently seen sitting and roaming near the station entrance, gradually becoming familiar to regular passengers.

The story took a humorous turn when a passenger, Sandesh Samant, photographed the cat and sent the picture to Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Limited, joking that the station’s “unpaid security guard” deserved an official position.

Metro officials decided to play along and gave the cat the honorary title of “Chief Feline Officer.”

Officials said the appointment was made purely in good humour, although the cat’s regular presence at the station has made it popular among passengers.

The cat has no identity card, salary or office, but its unofficial “job” has turned it into one of Mumbai Metro’s most amusing attractions.
