LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Rana Sanaullah has said that his party will announce its policy on the creation of new provinces when the matter comes before Parliament.
Speaking to the media in Lahore, Rana Sanaullah said that if the people wanted new provinces, “no one could stop them,” adding that the issue would ultimately have to be decided in Parliament.
He said no such statement regarding the provinces had been made by the federal minister in Parliament. According to him, a debate on the creation of new provinces would be meaningful and result-oriented only when held in Parliament, rather than at an economic forum or seminar.
Rana Sanaullah said consultations were currently underway within the PML-N regarding the party’s position on the creation of new provinces. He added that the party would also consider the views and opinions of its workers at the district and union council levels.
He stressed that the final decision on whether new provinces should be created would have to be taken by Parliament.
The PML-N leader also said tensions between the PML-N and Pakistan Peoples Party had eased. He added that during a meeting with Jamaat-e-Islami, he had requested the party to postpone its long march by one or two weeks.
