Islamabad: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a nationwide monsoon alert for the period from July 29 to August 5, 2026, warning of widespread rainfall, flash floods, urban flooding, and landslides across several parts of Pakistan.
According to the NDMA, intermittent rain and heavy downpours are expected in Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Balochistan, Punjab, and Sindh. The authority has warned that the expected rainfall may significantly increase water levels in major rivers, trigger flash floods in hill torrents, and cause urban flooding in low-lying areas.
The alert states that rivers, streams, glacial channels, and seasonal waterways in several districts of Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Kashmir, Balochistan, and Punjab are likely to experience sudden surges in water flow. Several major cities in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Sindh are also at risk of urban flooding due to heavy rainfall.
NDMA further warned of moderate to high water flows in the Chenab River and its linked waterways, while increased flows are also expected in the Jhelum, Ravi, Kabul, Swat, and Panjkora rivers. It added that any release of water from Indian reservoirs could further increase flood risks in the Ravi and Sutlej rivers.
The authority has directed all provincial and district administrations to remain on high alert, continuously monitor vulnerable locations, keep emergency response teams ready, and ensure the prompt restoration of roads if they are blocked by flooding or landslides.
NDMA has advised the public to avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from floodwaters and seasonal streams, exercise extreme caution in mountainous areas prone to landslides, and check the latest weather forecasts and road conditions before traveling.
Citizens have also been urged to stay informed through the Pak NDMA Disaster Alert mobile application and to follow the instructions of local authorities during any emergency situation.
