A remarkable discovery has emerged in Nepal following devastating floods, as police recovered gold, cash and important documents from a bank buried beneath flood debris.
According to Nepal Police, rescuers recovered approximately 500 million Nepalese rupees worth of gold, 15 million rupees in cash and important documents from the debris of the Krishi Vikas Bank branch in Trishuli Dhunge.
Police teams spent hours clearing debris to reach the bank's basement, where they located the lockers. The valuables were subsequently recovered and moved to a secure location.
The floods have caused widespread destruction across Nepal, burying buildings, vehicles and other property under several feet of debris. Several banks were also affected by the disaster.
In a separate incident a day earlier, a bank safe was reportedly swept away by floodwaters and later found in Dhading. Police said 29 people were arrested for allegedly breaking open the safe and taking cash. Authorities recovered 9,268,505 Nepalese rupees from those arrested.
