Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Senator Dr. Musadik Malik, and Sindh Governor Syed Muhammad Nihal Hashmi have announced the launch of an Urban Forest Programme and a special tree plantation campaign across Sindh.
During a meeting held at the Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination in Islamabad, the two leaders discussed Sindh's environmental challenges, afforestation efforts, climate resilience, and ways to strengthen cooperation between the federal and provincial governments.
Both sides agreed to launch the Urban Forest Green Initiative Programme in urban areas of Sindh to increase green cover, reduce air pollution, and support Pakistan's national environmental goals.
Dr. Musadik Malik also announced a special tree plantation campaign to mark Pakistan's Independence Day, stating that planting trees is an investment in a safer and more sustainable future for coming generations.
The leaders further discussed establishing urban forests along railway tracks, particularly in Karachi, in consultation with the Federal Minister for Railways to develop green corridors and promote environmentally friendly urban development.
During the meeting, Governor Sindh invited the federal minister to Governor House Karachi to deliver a special lecture to university students on climate change, environmental protection, and sustainable development. Dr. Malik accepted the invitation and reaffirmed his commitment to raising environmental awareness among the youth.
The meeting also included an exchange of views on the country's overall political situation, with both leaders emphasizing the importance of national unity, political harmony, and stability.
